I was born in a small village in Tibet in the year of the Wood Tiger. My parents were farmers, and we lived a simple life. I had two older brothers and a younger sister. We were a close-knit family, and I loved playing with my siblings in the fields and mountains surrounding our home.

But our peaceful life was shattered in 1950, when the Chinese Communist Party invaded Tibet. My father was taken away by the soldiers, and we never saw him again. My mother was left to raise us on her own, and she worked tirelessly to provide for us.

The Chinese occupation was a difficult time for Tibetans. Our culture and religion were suppressed, and we were forced to adopt Chinese customs. I remember being forced to sing Chinese songs in school and to learn about the "great leader" Mao Zedong.

Despite the challenges, my mother never gave up hope. She taught us the importance of education and encouraged us to pursue our dreams. I finished high school and went on to college, where I studied Tibetan language and literature.

After graduating from college, I worked as a teacher and a journalist. I also wrote articles and books about Tibetan culture and history. In 1998, I was awarded the International Women's Media Foundation's Courage in Journalism Award for my work.

In 2006, I published my memoir, *My Tibetan Childhood When Ice Shattered Stone*. The book tells the story of my childhood during the Chinese occupation and my journey to rebuild my life after the war.

*My Tibetan Childhood When Ice Shattered Stone* has been translated into more than 20 languages and has sold more than 500,000 copies worldwide. It has been praised by critics and readers alike for its honesty, courage, and hope.

I am grateful for the opportunity to share my story with the world. I hope that my book will inspire others to never give up on their dreams, no matter how difficult the circumstances.

I am also grateful to my mother, who taught me the importance of education and perseverance. She is my hero, and I owe her everything.

If you are interested in learning more about Tibet and the Chinese occupation, I encourage you to read *My Tibetan Childhood When Ice Shattered Stone*. It is a story of survival, hope, and courage that will stay with you long after you finish reading it.

Thank you for reading.
