In the annals of human history, the Holocaust stands as a dark and shameful chapter. The systematic extermination of millions of people by the Nazi regime is a crime that will forever stain the conscience of humanity.

But amidst the darkness, there are also stories of hope and resilience. Stories of people who survived the unimaginable and emerged from the depths of despair with their spirits intact.

This is the story of one such survivor, a woman named Eva Mozes Kor. Born in Romania in 1934, Eva and her family were rounded up and sent to Auschwitz in 1944. She was just ten years old.

Over the next year, Eva endured unimaginable horrors. She was subjected to medical experiments, starved, and beaten. She watched as her family members were killed. But through it all, she never gave up hope.

In 1945, Auschwitz was liberated by the Soviet army. Eva was one of the few survivors. She weighed just 40 pounds and was suffering from typhus. But she was alive.

After the war, Eva immigrated to the United States and began to rebuild her life. She married a fellow Holocaust survivor, Miklos Kor, and they had two children. Eva also founded the CANDLES Holocaust Museum and Education Center in Terre Haute, Indiana.

Eva's story is a testament to the power of the human spirit. Despite the horrors she endured, she never lost her faith in humanity. She dedicated her life to educating others about the Holocaust and to promoting peace and understanding.

Eva Mozes Kor passed away in 2019 at the age of 85. But her legacy will live on forever. She is an inspiration to us all, a reminder that even in the darkest of times, there is always hope.
