George Thomas is a young boy who lives on a farm in Virginia. When the Civil War breaks out, George's father joins the Confederate Army. George is left behind to care for his mother and younger siblings. One day, George finds a stray dog and takes him home. The dog, whom George names Abe, quickly becomes his best friend.

As the war rages on, George and Abe witness the horrors of battle. They see friends and family members killed or injured. They also see the devastation that the war is causing to the land. Despite the hardships they face, George and Abe never give up hope. They know that they have each other, and that is enough to get them through anything.

George Thomas and Abe is a story of friendship, courage, and hope. It is a reminder that even in the darkest of times, there is always light to be found.
