  3. Drill two pilot holes through the 1x4s and into the 2x4s, at each corner.
  4. Drive a 3-inch wood screw through each pilot hole.
  5. Test the stilts out by standing on them and walking around. Adjust the height of the stilts as needed by adding or removing washers from the bolts.

Project 2: Superhero Capes

Superhero capes are another fun and easy DIY project that kids will love. They can be made from a variety of materials, so you can customize them to your child's interests.

Materials:

  • Fabric (such as felt, fleece, or cotton)
  • Scissors
  • Needle and thread
  • Embroidery floss (optional)
  • Iron-on letters or appliqués (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Cut a piece of fabric that is approximately 30 inches wide and 40 inches long.
  2. Fold the fabric in half lengthwise and sew the two sides together, leaving a 6-inch opening at the top for the head.
  3. Turn the cape right side out and press the seams flat.
  4. Embroider or iron-on any letters or appliqués that you want to add to the cape.
  5. Tie the cape around your child's neck and let them fly!

Project 3: Tinker Boxes

Tinker boxes are a great way to encourage creativity and problem-solving skills in kids. They can be filled with a variety of materials, such as recycled items, craft supplies, and old toys.

Materials:

  • A box (such as a shoebox or plastic storage container)
  • Recycled items (such as cardboard tubes, egg cartons, and bottle caps)
  • Craft supplies (such as glue, scissors, and tape)
  • Old toys

Instructions:

  1. Fill the box with a variety of recycled items, craft supplies, and old toys.
  2. Let your child explore the box and use their imagination to create whatever they want.
  3. Encourage your child to experiment with different materials and techniques.

Project 4: Seesaws

Seesaws are a classic playground toy that is always a hit with kids. They're easy to make and require only a few materials.

Materials:

  • Two pieces of 2x6 lumber, each 8 feet long
  • Two pieces of 4x4 lumber, each 4 feet long
