About the Author
Sam Shepard was born in Fort Sheridan, Illinois, in 1943. He began writing plays in the early 1960s, and his first major success came in 1965 with the Off-Broadway production of The Tooth of Crime. Shepard went on to write more than 40 plays, as well as screenplays, essays, and short stories. He won numerous awards for his work, including the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 1979 for Buried Child and the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay in 1984 for Paris, Texas. Shepard died in 2017.
