About the Author

Patrick Dennis (1921-1976) was an American novelist and playwright. He is best known for his Auntie Mame novels, which have been adapted into several films and a Broadway musical.

Dennis was born in Evanston, Illinois, and grew up in New York City. He began writing at a young age, and his first novel, Auntie Mame, was published in 1955. The novel was a huge success, and it was followed by two sequels, Around the World with Auntie Mame (1958) and Auntie Mame in Japan (1963).

In addition to his Auntie Mame novels, Dennis also wrote several other books and plays. He died in New York City in 1976.
