About the Conference

The 2024 International Mokuhanga Conference will be held in Nara, Japan, from August 23rd to 25th, 2024. The conference will focus on the theme of "Sumi Fusion Mokuhanga," and will bring together artists, scholars, and enthusiasts from around the world to explore the latest developments in this exciting and innovative art form.

Mokuhanga is a traditional Japanese printmaking technique that uses water-based inks and woodblocks. Sumi fusion mokuhanga is a relatively new variation of this technique that incorporates sumi ink, a type of black ink made from soot. Sumi fusion mokuhanga allows artists to create prints with a wide range of tones and textures, and to explore new and exciting possibilities in printmaking.
